My Happiness Project


I haven't delved into the depths of my brain, my mind, my inner-thoughts on my blog. I am not sure if I will or not. However, I will share that I am more complex than just a simple lifestyle blog, just like anyone really. I have struggles that I deal with on a daily basis. Without going all doom and gloom on you, I will just say that the past few years haven't been the best for me. I shall leave it at that. For now at least.

Since I am unhappy with where my life is going - and yes, I realise I am only 20 (I worry about the future ok) - I chose to do something about it. I read "The Happiness Project" end of last year. I highly recommend this book as it is amazing. It is a great read, I honestly couldn't put the book down once I got it and it inspired me.


Taking cue from the book I decided to do my own happiness project this year. I have a lot to work on but thought this would be a good base for my 2014 goals. I am also not following Gretchen's project exactly as not everything applies to me - the chapters relating to her husband and children. I am going to rework it to suit me.

Essentially, there is a theme for each month. For each month there are a few goals that you work on. In January, you only work on January goals. When it comes to February, you add February goals to January goals. By December, you will be doing the whole year's worth of goals. Now what is great about Gretchen's book is that she pretty much sets you up perfectly, having done all the previous research. (Read it now, seriously. It will change your life)

January - Boost Energy Physically
February - Boost Energy Mentally
March - Aim Higher
April - Make Time for Friends
May - Pursue a Passion
June - Be Serious About Play
July - Buy Some Happiness
August - Contemplate The Heavens
September - Pay Attention
October - Keep a Contented Heart
November -
December - Boot Camp Perfect

I have decided to share my monthly goals at the beginning of each month. At the end of each month I will share my progress. I will tell you how I am feeling, what's working, and what's not.

To help keep me on track I am going to use Gretchen's 12 commandments

1. Be you
2. Let it go
3. Act the way I want to feel
4. Do it now
5. Be polite and be fair
6. Enjoy the process
7. Spend out
8. Identify the problem
9. Lighten up
10. Do what ought to be done
11. No calculation
12. There is only love

That's basically it. I have kept it really simple, just my monthly goals and 12 commandments to follow. While I am doing My Happiness Project I am also going to read the book, reading the chapter relevant to my theme for the month.

Join me and do your own happiness project this year. Make 2014 your year for change, to better yourself.

Even if you don't wish to do your own happiness project, I recommend reading the book. You will look at the way you act and feel in a whole new light.
